About Us & Our Care
Why should I choose Masterton Foot Clinic?
We believe healthy feet support healthy lives. Our role isn't simply to treat foot pain—it's to help you stay active, independent, and doing the things that matter most to you.
Every recommendation we make is guided by current evidence, our clinical experience, and your individual goals. Whether you're hoping to return to sport, keep working comfortably, enjoy time with your family, or maintain your independence as you age, we'll work with you to find the treatment approach that's right for you.
Most importantly, we treat people—not simply feet.
What does a podiatrist do?
Podiatrists are university-trained, registered health professionals who specialise in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of conditions affecting the feet and lower limbs. At Masterton Foot Clinic, we manage everything from heel pain and sports injuries to arthritis, diabetes, skin and nail conditions, children's foot problems, orthotic therapy, and advanced bracing.
Should I see a podiatrist or a physiotherapist?
Both professions play an important role, and we work closely with many local physiotherapists. As podiatrists, we specialise exclusively in the feet and lower limbs. If your symptoms are centred around your feet, ankles, or lower limbs, we're often the best place to start. If we believe another healthcare professional could better assist you, we'll happily discuss this with you and make the appropriate referral.
Do you see children?
Absolutely. We regularly see children of all ages, from toddlers taking their first steps through to teenagers involved in competitive sport.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly with us at any time. We also welcome referrals from GPs, nurse practitioners, physiotherapists, orthopaedic surgeons, sports physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
Your Appointment
What happens at my first appointment?
Your first appointment is about understanding you—not just your foot problem.
We'll discuss your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, and goals before carrying out a thorough assessment. If appropriate, we'll explain our findings, discuss treatment options, and work with you to develop a personalised management plan.
What should I bring?
If possible, please bring:
- Any referral letters.
- Relevant X-rays or ultrasound reports.
- Up to three pairs of your most commonly worn footwear
- Any orthotics or braces you already use.
- Shorts if your problem involves your leg or knee.
How long will my appointment take?
Most appointments are between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the reason for your visit. Our reception team will let you know what to expect when you book.
How many appointments will I need?
This depends on your condition.
Some problems can be treated in a single visit, while others require ongoing management. Following your assessment, we'll discuss what we expect your treatment journey to look like and explain why.
Is your clinic accessible?
Yes.
We have onsite parking, wheelchair access, accessible toilet facilities, and can accommodate most mobility aids.
Do you offer home visits?
In some circumstances, yes.
Please contact our reception team to discuss whether a home visit may be appropriate.
ACC, Funding & Payment
Can you lodge an ACC claim?
Yes.
As ACC-registered providers, we can lodge many new ACC claims directly from our clinic and provide ongoing injury management where appropriate.
Can I use Southern Cross Easy-Claim?
Yes.
If your Southern Cross policy includes podiatry cover, we can process your Easy-Claim at the time of your appointment.
Do you provide WINZ quotes?
Yes.
We're a registered WINZ quote provider. We also offer free WINZ assessments in order for you to get a quote for services.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes.
We accept Zip interest-free payments for eligible services.
Treatments & Referrals
Will everyone need orthotics?
No.
Orthotics are just one of many treatment options we offer. If we recommend them, we'll explain why we believe they're appropriate for your particular condition and discuss the evidence supporting their use.
Are custom orthotics different from pharmacy inserts?
Yes.
Custom Foot Orthoses are individually prescribed following a comprehensive assessment and are designed specifically for your feet, your biomechanics, and your goals. While over-the-counter inserts can be helpful for some people, they are not individually prescribed.
Can you refer me for X-rays or an ultrasound?
Yes.
Where clinically appropriate, we can refer you for X-ray or ultrasound imaging to assist diagnosis and management.
Will you tell me if treatment isn't necessary?
Absolutely.
Sometimes, reassurance, advice, or monitoring is the most appropriate treatment. If we don't believe intervention is likely to benefit you, we'll tell you.
What if you think another healthcare professional is better suited to help me?
We'll explain why and help direct you to the right person.
We work closely with GPs, physiotherapists, orthopaedic surgeons, sports physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure you receive the care that's most appropriate for your situation.
